The Edinburgh International Festival Centre, The Hub
The historic A-listed building is one of Edinburgh ’s iconic landmarks, proudly towering over the Royal Mile . Originally built in 1845, the building was acquired in 1995 by The Edinburgh International Festival and underwent a huge transformation under the design and supervision of Benjamin Tindall Architects .
RMP Acoustic Consultants provided the full range of acoustic consultancy services throughout the project. Specific challenges on this project included controlling high levels of music noise within the main auditorium breaking out through the large leaded glass windows to residential properties across the Royal Mile. The walls of the auditoria were finished with acoustic panelling specifically designed for the project and hidden within the colourful fabric finish.
The centre was re-opened to the public by HM The Queen in July, 1999 and is now home for the Edinburgh Festival Centre and features performers of other festivals. It features a 700-person auditorium, exhibition, retail, catering and office space.
