31 May 2009 - The Edinburgh Marathon
That was just perfect for a good day out between workmates. Is it not?
That’s it; four of the RMP consultants were motivated from January to participate in this event, Russell Macdonald, Scott Lothian, Tim Waters-Fuller and Juliette Paris. All together, the team decided to run for SAVE THE CHILDREN. Apart from Scott, we were all beginners at long distance running. That is why it was a true challenge. Training was progressive and as the RMP office is close to the Union Canal it was nice to go running in such a beautiful location.
The closer of the marathon, the more stressed we were. We came to realise we were not only running for ourselves but we were also representing a team, and more importantly, the people who sponsored us so generously.
The Marathon Day
20°C! What happened to Scotland this morning?! Everybody was concerned about the temperature and you could see the water bottles disappearing very quickly. To make sure we would be on time at each point of the relay we could not see each other before the start of the marathon. Russell was running the first 8.1 mile leg, The Royal Leg, from Regent Road in Edinburgh to Fisherrow Links in Musselburgh, he started at 9.00. Juliette was waiting in Musselburgh and was very impressed by Russell’s timing of only 1h10mins. Juliette was running the second leg, The Cock & Pan Leg, which was Fisherrow Links to Port Seton Links (5.4 miles). After 52 min she gave the timer to Scott who was going to run the third leg, The Gosford Leg. Scott covered the 8 mile distance in 1h12mins, which was very good considering he has an injury. And finally The Glory Leg from Port Seton Links to Musselburgh Race Course (4.7 miles) was run by Tim in 36 minutes only!
In total the team arrived 254th out of 932 Relay teams with a time of 3h: 51 min: 55s.
