Queen's Anniversary Prize 2009
The award was made in recognition of the outstanding contribution to knowledge exchange made by the Building Performance Centre for a project involving sound insulation between attached dwellings and the development of Robust Details for use in the Building Standard Regulations. The prize was presented by Her Majesty The Queen at a national honours ceremony held at Buckingham Palace Palace on 18th February 2010.
We are currently offering clients a variety of CPD courses including giving an overview of the 2010 changes to Part E of the Building Regulations, which represents the biggest change in acoustic standard in 30 years. More details included in Newsletter 5.
November 2009
At a ceremony in St James' Palace on 18th November our centre was awarded was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize 2009 for our work in “Innovative housing construction for environmental benefit and quality of life”.
This prestigious Award was given in recognition of the University’s research and knowledge transfer over the last 7 years with the new build housing sector, the development of robust details, construction product innovations, sound insulation and the wider benefits to the society and the environment.
Some of the other winners were University of Oxford, Warwick University, London School of Economics, the Open University, Kings College London and Cardiff University.

RMP/BPC staff attended the 8th annual Euronoise conference held in Edinburgh 26-28 October 2009 . This was the largest Euronoise conference since 1992, attended by over 750 delegates from across Europe and the world. RMP/BPC staff presented several research papers on sound insulation regulations for 2010, effects of noise on residents from smokers congregating outside licensed premises due to the smoking ban, window and façade design and noise abatement measures and new innovative products for sound reduction. Prof Sean Smith chaired the two-day International Sound Insulation Standards session. BPC also hosted the preliminary meeting of the forthcoming EU Cost program on Sound Insulation in Sustainable Housing Constructions, involving 22 countries where we are the leading UK representative.

Our new innovative products with Icopal Monafloor have been nominated for the Housing Product of the Year. The Award winners will be announced in November this year. With over 20,000 construction product manufacturers in the UK and to be listed in this exclusive top 6 short list is superb news!
The development of the product was supported by Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept (PoC), BPAC Hangar 17 and the Edinburgh Napier University staff: 2KT team and The School of Engineering & Built Environment. The product is manufactured by our industry KTP partner Monafloor Acoustic Systems.

On Sunday 31 May a team of four RMP Acoustic Runners, Russell Macdonald, Juliette Paris, Scott Lothian and Tim Waters-Fuller took part in the Hairy Haggis Team Relay as part of the Edinburgh Marathon. Please read the full story.
On Thursday 14th May Professor Sean Smith gave his Professorial Lecture entitled: 'Horizon Scanning for the Housing Construction Sector.'
The lecture was attended by over a 100 delegates from the construction sector and academia.

Our Senior Acoustic Consultant Sean Smith has been awarded Professorship in Construction Innovation. Prof Smith is a depute director of the Building Performance Centre at Edinburgh Napier University and is actively involved in product development research.
